A fresh start…

Hello out there!
I’ve been working on reformatting my website this week, tidying it up in preparation for my new solo show (still to be officially titled and announced) at the incomparable THIS Gallery (https://thisgallery.org/) this September 2026.
Having a new show is a good reason to go back and tidy up my website and it was a great push to have, because I have not updated this thing since I first built it in 2023! I’m sure other creative types can relate - it’s easy to spend days in the studio working on art and honing creativity, and much harder to spend days cramped over a screen, trying to figure out code and web hosting and all the other tech-related stuff that comes with running a business; even if it’s a very small one.

A serious coder and businessperson, doing serious coding and business.
I’m glad to be doing this work now though, for a couple of reasons:
Having a new solo show will (hopefully!) bring a lot of new eyeballs to this site; I want it looking clean, professional and put together when they come to look. It’ll never be the prettiest site in the world but it should at least have some of my more recent pieces on it, no? And their sizes, prices, some more personal details about their stories? Which brings me to item…
Again, like other artists I could be better at documenting my process and sharing behind the scenes videos, pictures and stories about “my why” and my artistic background. As of right now, I do most of that sharing on instagram, and I would really like to begin moving off of instagram and building an online space that is owned and controlled by me, not the terrifying facsists who have risen to power in our world. In the spirit of trying to leave meta behind, I’ve decided to start writing some longer form content (and sharing process etc) right here on my own website! I used to love reading blogs and going to the actual websites of people I admired back before social media took everything over; now I’m doing my part to start trying to bring that model back.
Blogs are cool! And it’s exciting to be thinking about starting one up again and maybe building a little community of my own. Not chasing likes and reblogs but just being authentically me in my own little “corner of the internet” as we used to say in the 2000s. It’s very millennial of me and I’m going to have fun leaning into that “cringey” (fun!) side of myself.
All that is to say - if there’s anybody reading this at this early stage, before I’ve promoted it or drawn attention to it at all…what would you like to see in this space? I have been able to see for a long time now through Google analytics that there are people visiting this site over and over, from the same towns, the same web addresses…who are you? Feel free to introduce yourself if you want to!
I can’t promise this new blog will be a super consistently updated place because that’s just not me…but I will try. I’m excited to see where this new little venture will lead and I hope you are too!
That’s all for now, my very first post.
Take care,
Emily. XO
