Orange Crush
When I traveled to the California desert in 2023, I stayed near this little cement bunker of a home and fell more and more in love with it every time I drove by. It’s not big, flashy or memorable, but for the fire-orange window trimmings that shock your eyes with their brightness in a sea of beige, brown, and blue sky.
Whoever lives here lives remotely; far from major cities and towns, off the beaten path. They are nondescript and minimalist…but they chose to paint those windowsills bright orange. There was no other ornamentation; no flowers or benches or even a trimmed yard.
It’s been three years and I’m still thinking of these bright orange windows; still crushing on this little desert home.
